Any place between Bergen & Oslo Good to visit ?
I`m flying back to Oslo from Tromso on 23/11/2010.
I`m flying to Australia from Oslo on 29/11/ 2010
So, I`m thinking of going to Bergen ,taking a trip on the Fiam(?) railway and then what?
Do Istay in Bergen a few days? Go to another town? Is the Norway in a Nutshell tour worth doing?Or is independent travel the way to go?
Is a longer stay in Oslo a good idea,I have had conflicting reports,so now I`m just confused .
All ideas & recommondations gratefully awaited.

I'd recommend Aurland, a cute, TINY little town on the Sognefjord. We were there last summer between Oslo and Bergen. We drove... I want to say it was about 4 hours from Oslo to Aurland. We stayed in a little cottage on the fjord (Hotel Vangsgaarden... they have rooms and cottages. We did a cottage. Very quaint.) If you'd like to email me for details, feel free. My email is [email protected].
We didn't do the Nutshell thing... did our own version of it, which I think is 100 times better to do but I just hate being part of tours so that's probably my bias. Again, I can give you some specifics if you'd like.
Very, very beautiful country. You'll love it!!

You are going to be there in the dead of winter so I would rule out cute summer cottages. The days will be short and cold. Norway in a Nutshell is not a "tour", it's a bus/train/boat route that takes you through some very scenic areas. You can do it in one day from Bergen or even stretch it out for several days. However, I have no idea what it would be like in the dead of winter. In May it was great. The train ride from Oslo to Bergen was also quite scenic. I think your best bet may be to take the train to Bergen and then do the Nutshell route from there, assuming you have enough daylight to do so. You mention that you are returning from Tromso so it's possible you will have already seen quite a bit of frozen Norway and neither the Nutshell nor Bergen would be particularly interesting.

Well I`m in Norway in November,so I`m going to look around, summer would be lovely, but I`ll bet winter does have its beauty too.As I`m travelling solo & on public transport I will stick to the big cities.
Iwill aim to do the Nutshell independently,as the very thought of a tour gives me the horrors! Thanks for telling me this is possible.BarbaraMh I would love some specifics.
