There is a hostel that is a former prison: http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/sweden/stockholm/4319/
Stockholm is very very expensive. Try Airbnb too.
Thanks for the link...have you actually booked on hostelbookers.com? Did you find it accurate? Was everything what it was suppose to be when you arrived?
I did not actually use hostelbookers.com but I considered this hostel myself in 2010 while traveling to Stockholm with my family including my 3 year old. I ended up getting a hotel through Hotwire.
Thanks for the info!
It sounds like you already know Stockholm, even though you are in your 20s.
I went backpacking with my mom when I was 12, we stayed with an exchange student in the area who worked just north of there. My mom was an exchange student there...but I have to do this project for class to test out travel blogs so I wanted to ask question with a country I have some familiarity with to check for validity, but I really don't know where to stay. I have never stayed in a hostel or used hostelbooker before. My mom has always made our travel arrangements. I only remember very clearly visitng drottingholm and hearing our exchange student say the real royal family lives in this half and then going through old town was one of my hightlights....I remembe those small little alley ways.
I've used Hostelbookers before (not for Sweden) several times, and everything worked perfectly. If you are concerned, you can always check with the hostel directly before you depart, to ensure they have your reservation.
By the way the prison hostel is part of Hosteling international (HI) which is a very reputable organization.
The af Chapman sailing ship in Stockholm harbour has to be a standout for hostels anywhere -

Was very impressed during my stay there in my younger days by the presence at breakfast of a large group of scantily clad female Scandinavian college students.
