any experience with usually well behaved 6 year olds in a norway in a nutshell and iceland?

i'm planning to celebrate my 54th b-day leaving the incandescent sun & palm trees behind in caracas, venezuela to cover them in lichens and fjords and glaciers. i feel like inviting my 6 year old grandson as his b-day gift to go along with me on my adventure (he has never felt the cold, or seen the fall trees, or snow or traveled in a train or boat) on a 11 day trip to oslo for 2 nights + nutshell with 2 nights in bergen and maybe sognenfjord, overnight to oslo in a sleeper, then fly to iceland for 6 days, where i had planned to take it easy in reykjavik and let it flow with day trips etc. depending on the mid october weather. the only thing in iceland i wouldn't be able to do if i take him along, is have a spa day...please let me know asap if any of you have ventured out to these places with kids.thanks... janine

Well, I didn't do the nutshwll with 'real' kids, only my DH and his brother and wife.

But I would think that nutshell would be a delight for a 6 year old. The train and boat rides, the woman "singing" halfway up (or down, depending) the (whatdycallit). Go for it.

Can't help on Iceland. Never been there. Maybe there is something for him to do, with a sitter or something, so you could have your spa day. A hotel-recommended sitter and TV in the hotel room? <g>

What a wonderful grandmother you are !

Took my kids to Sweden several winters at about that age -- one of their best memories. Sweden isn't quite Norway or Iceland, and we had tons of snow which you most likely won't have in either place. All the same, the experience will be priceless. Take him, enjoy the special time together, and be assured that Scandinavia is quite kid friendly!
