We will be in Rome in October for 5 days, the last stop on our 21 day trip. I would like info on a super good tour that will keep a 15 year old engaged as well as the old parents who are tagging along!
I thought a night tour would be wonderful, if they offer those.
Let me know your thoughts and thanks for the help!

We toured the Sistine Chapel (after trying 3 or 4 times to get in on our own) with Jason Spiehler who is, I think, with Roman Odyssey Tours. He was extremely knowledgeable and got us in and out of places we'd never have been able to move through on our own. He is interesting without being "cutesy" like so many tour guides. We recommend him highly. Google his name or Roman Odyssey Tours and you should be able to find him.

You're not supposed to talk in the Sistine Chapel (although the roar of the crowd is incredible in there and the guards are constantly hushing people) so guides do not go into the chapel.

If you mean a tour of the Vatican Museums (where you enter the Sistine Chapel at the end), I've taken both Context and Enjoy Rome tours. These are at opposite ends of the price spectrum. The Enjoy Rome tour was very good but the Context tour was excellent because of the guide who may not be working for Context any more since this was a long time ago.

As adrienne said, your guide cannot tell you about the Sistine Chapel while you are in it. However, most guides to the Vatican Museums will instruct their groups about the Sistine Chapel while pausing in some other section nearby, where there are posters set on easels for just this purpose that show the chapel ceiling and walls.

If you want a diagram of the Sistine Chapel to take in with you get a copy of Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling by Ross King. In the middle of the book is a diagram which you can copy.

BTW - it's a great book to read before you go to Rome.
