Another Earthquake in Italy

Terrible news again in Italy this morning. Another strong earthquake hit near Norcia, apparently causing much damage to the beautiful basilica there.

We are currently in Bologna but luckily didn't feel it. I think it was felt mostly south and even into neighbouring countries!

I hope bvlenci is ok!!

This was felt in Rome. Very strong. Pictures are showing a lot of damage.

Oh no! Such a frightening time for the people of this beautiful region. I think bvlenci is at her full time home further south, but I'm sure they are concerned about their summer home and neighbors.

My heart goes out to those affected. I was hoping this series of earthquakes was over now for a few years at least.

We're fine. Our home is actually north of the earthquake zone, but near enough. We certainly felt it. It seemed to last forever, although the news says it lasted just one minute.

This is the third major earthquake we've felt this week. There were two on Wednesday, the second more powerful than the first. To be honest, we've had enough of it.

The historical Basilica of St Benedict in Norcia (Nursia), already damaged in the August quake, has now completely collapsed, just leaving the façade standing.

My Italian friends who have a second home in Spoleto said that the diningroom chandelier came crashing down during this quake. They also said that another one is expected within the next 48 hours. (I assume he means aftershock(s)).

1 minute is a very long time for a seism to last. Wow. Having lived in japan and felt many, normally it lasted a few seconds. 10 to 20 seconds are rather long ones.

Actually, the evening news said that it lasted 2 minutes, but we're not that near, so we probably only felt one minute of it.

My husband was in the shower when it hit. He didn't feel it right away, but I told him. By the time he got out and put his bathrobe on, and we got out the door, it was tapering off.

Bvlenci,

Glad to hear things are ok for you!

I lived in southern California for the first half of my life and ran out of the house in my nightgown in the dark during my first big one. I think that one was right about a 6.0 and it was a good 50 miles away!

Thinking of those affected.....

I could feel it in Venice. Really a strong one. My heart goes out to the lovely areas which lie in ruin.
