I need to park my rental car in the safest, most convenient location during my non-high season visit, and I need 24-hour access to the car, since I will be coming and going at all hours. Do the enclosed garages in the city-center, particularly P6 (Musee Chateau), P4 (Sainte-Claire), or P3 (Hotel de Ville) provide 24-hour access?

I need to calculate a garage budget for a 14-day visit. If my car is parked for 24-hours in one of the garages above, what is the maximum I can expect to pay per day? Are the rates the same for all three of these garages?

Who are you renting with? We rented from Avis last year and were able to park the car at the train station where they keep their cars for free. It wasn't for two weeks though, just a couple of times.

The train station is not convenient for me. Free is nice, but there are no free lots within a short, easy walking distance from my apartment. My apartment is closest to P6 (Musee Chateau), which is on the other side of town, slightly uphill. The apt owner does not speak one word of English, so I need to rely on helpful info from elsewhere.

Here is a link to the parking page with a brochure on it (in French only) From reading the brochure, it looks like the P6 lot closes between 1AM-7AM The reason I think this is that there is one part of the brochure that says that with a "subsciption card" you can get access outside of the normal opening hours

I parked overnight at the Hotel de Ville garage in April while staying at the Splendid Hotel. As I remember, the garage allowed 24hour access, just pay your bill before exiting. My non pin and chip card was not accepted at the automatic pay station.

Do not remember the cost.

Thank you, jpie, for the info about 24-hour access. It's not perfectly clear yet, but it looks like a special card (resident or business) is needed to access your car during garage closing hours. That could be a bummer.

Hotels may have a different arrangement with a specific car garage.

Why don't you use Google Translate to write an email to ask the apartment owner. They will most likely know the answer off hand. You can translate the answer back to English in Google Translate as well.

I've been doing that since the first email. His VRBO ad says he only speaks French, so I knew I had to do something. Google Translate sometimes works, while other times it's a mess of guesswork. He already sent some info about street parking but none of it makes any sense to me. My plan is to call the Annecy Tourist office via Skype during business hours. When I know more, I'll post it here.

The other thing to remember as it says also in the brochure is that parking at the meters is free from 7PM to 9AM and also between 12noon and 2PM and parking at meters is also free all day Sunday. So if you know you will not be back until after 1AM a certain day you can park at a meter and just get up and move it or feed the meter at 9AM. Granted it can be hard sometimes to find a spot, but in my recollection Annency isn't so big that it would be impossible to do so.

Thank you, jpie. The apt owner wrote back to clarify and he said what you said. Parking is free at the meters from 7pm to 9am, and between 12 noon and 2pm. So I'm clear on that. I still need to know, what is the maximum ticket time allowed per timestamp? How much is a maximum ticket?

I am not sure I know what you are asking. Do you want to know if you can leave your car parked 3days in a row for instance or if you have to take it out every 24 hours...or something else?

The only thing the brochure does say is that they forfaits (plans) for 3 days for 33 euros 5 days for 45 euros and a weekend plan for 25 euros. It also says you can take your car in and out during that time period and to buy a plan like that, you need to talk to people in the office of the parking that you want to use. So maybe something like that would work for you....

I assume not all ticket stamp meters require the same costs. They differ from city to city, street to street. One example in the U.S., a ticket from a stamp machine can be purchased in 50-cent increments, and each increment purchases perhaps 10-minutes of parking. The maximum amount you can purchase at one time might be $3, which protects you for a maximum of one-hour's worth of parking. After the 1-hour is up, the car owner has to show up and purchase another ticket.

I'm trying to find out the equivalent information for parking on the streets near the Chateau Garage in Annecy.

Oh now I get it-you are looking at the street parking limits not the paid lots. Okay so according to the parking brochure, there are 3 types of meters:

Short limit Red Zone (en ZONE ROUGE courte durée) 2 euros per hour, maximum limit is 1hour 15 minutes

Medium limit Green Zone (en ZONE VERTE moyenne durée) 1 euro per hour maximum limit 2 hours

Long limit Emerald (en ZONE ÉMERAUD longue durée) 1 euro per hour maximum limit 1 day

Most of the parking right around the P6 lot is Medium limit. There is one area not too far away the the little "U" section created by Avenue Lucien Boschetti and Faubourg des Balmettes that is the nearest 1 day zone. If you haven't done so yet, I would suggest you download "la brochure Annecy parkings" I mentioned since on page 4 it has a map clearly showing the 3 types of metered areas of the city.

No doubt too late to help you, but, I parked at the Hotel de Ville and the Hotel Splendide paid for most of the night - IIRC something like 8-8 was on them, the rest was on me if I parked there all day. You aren't staying at that hotel, though. I don't remember if you were stuck inside overnight or not, either.
