Annecy accommodations

I am going to Annecy the 1st week in Oct and can't decide whether to stay in the center of town or on the outside of town where parking and getting around may be hard. There are lots of hotels in the city with free parking. I don't mind the 20 min walk to town if the hotel is awesome but it is really nice to step out your door and have everything at your fingertips. Any suggestions??? I would love any ideas about day trips also. I planned on driving to Lyon. I want to see the old town and shop. Also Mont Blanc. Annecy looks awesome. Discovered it while watching Tour de France. Couldn't believe my eyes. Thanks for any help.

Well I typed that backwards. If I stay in town it will possibly be hard to park and get around. If anyone knows of a good property, please let me know. Soo excited.

I loved Annecy, great idea. But you do know you can take the train to Lyon, where you won't need a car either.

The Ibis is in the middle of the old town and has free parking, last time I checked.

Look at the tourist office website for accommodation:

In the first week of October you're not going to have a hard time parking and getting around Annecy since high season is over. I spent two weeks on the Lac d'Annecy and wrote a photo report about my stay that will detail many (not all) of the things you can see and do nearby: http://tinyurl.com/7er3tjn
