Hello,
We are spending a week in the Alsace region the first week of May, 2010. I am looking at an apartment in the town of Andlau.......can anyone provide any info on the town of Andlau and would you recommend it as a base to explore the region, it looks like it is situated in a good location between Strasbourg and Colmar for great day trips....thank you,
Mikek

I don't know anything about Andlau, but if you've found an apartment that you like, I'd go for it. We spent a week in October in Riquewihr as our base, and all the villages are so close to each other, I don't see how you could go wrong. We liked being in a village where we could walk to a boulangerie, winery, small grocery, poste, etc., and it looks as though Andlau has all those.
Have fun!
Hi Mike,

Ditto GM.
Strasbourg is only about 1 hr's drive from Colmar.
I remember Andlau very fondly from several trips to the Alsace area. I'd say if you've found an appealing apartment there, go for it. It's a beautiful town.
I am reactivating this thread as I, too, have found a couple of apartments in Andlau and would be interested in hearing from others who stayed here and also if they have any special apartment that they liked. However, I do not think that there is a train station here. Thanks Kathy
Strasbourg, Colmar and the wine road vilages are best explored by car - esp if someone will be there for a week. It makes getting where you want when much easier - not captive to public transit schedules which can be sparse.
Thank yo, nytraveler. We will have a car and will be staying in this area for two weeks. My inquiry as to train stations was due to the fact that I will probably fly into Paris (ff miles!) and take the train...I think I will take the train to Strasburg and pick up a rental car there. The area looks absolutely gorgeous.
This was my post last year. We did spend a week (May 2010) in the Alsace and rented a beautiful apartment in Andlau. The location was perfect to explore the region, being centrally located between Strasbourg and Colmar (we had a car).
Easy and beautiful drives thru the vineyards to towns such as Obernai, Barr, Selestat, Turkheim, Ribeauville, Riquewihr, Mont Ste-Odile and to Haut Koenigsbourg Castle. Colmar is less than an hour away with Strasbourg being about an hours drive, Basel Switzerland and Frieburg, Germany are also drives of an hour or so. We landed in Frankfurt, rented a car at the airport and were in Andlau in about three hours. I cannot say enough about this region, it is absolutley beautiful, very little tourists, very little traffic thru the countryside, great restaurants, castles, wine tastings at the local vineyards, and the numerous little villages are all so quaint.
