Andalucia with 3 children in August
We are staying in a villa near Malaga for 10 -14 nights. We have an opportunity to go off for 3-5 days in the middle. Is it too hot in August to travel around? We have been to Granada before we had kids. I'd like to go back. Seville looks like a good option from other posts. Is it best to go by train, car, bus ? Any hotels recommended for 5 of us? Probably best to just go to one place? And maybe do day trips to cordoba or Ronda? Thanks in advance.

I was in Seville for a week this past June, the second week of June. It was very, very hot. Well over 100 F for a couple of days.
I can't imagine what the place is like in August. I'd love to go back, I loved Seville, but it will be in early spring or winter next time.
If you go, get a place with a/c, make sure a/c works (and I'm not even a fan of a/c), only go out in the morning before noon, and after 6 or 7 pm.
Granada and the coast was much milder, though still hot. Ronda, during that time, was in the 70s and pleasant.
But this was in June, again.

I rented an apartment from Sevilla5, and I was very happy with the overall experience.
We rented the Bamberg apt, which would sleep 5 - a double bed downstairs, two twin beds upstairs with a roll-away bed as well. However - the way the one bed was positioned against the somewhat open stairwell, I don't think it would be safe for young children. It was a nice apt there, very clean, and the owner was friendly and professional to work with.
They have other 2 bedroom apts. to rent though.

Thanks for replies. Does anyone know if it is easy to get a train from Malaga to Seville or is car hire easier? Also, how long do we need in Seville? Our girls are 13 and twins aged 10.

Nerja is nowhere near Seville, but you could go that way were you to visit Granada. Think a car would be cheaper. Two or three days is sufficient in that heat. You might also visit Cordoba on the way to Granada. Don't forget to get tickets in advance for the Alhambra. Where are you staying near Malaga ?

I got it wrong ...we are 60 km from Malaga near. Marbella...our children won't want to be out too much in the heat but we would like to see a bit of the culture while we are nearby so need to see if we fit in Seville and/or cordoba/ Granada. We have driven in European cities before but my husband is a bit bothered about driving into the middle of Seville? He's driven in Naples and other Italian cities so I think he will be fine!? I don't know if you can park/stay outside and then bus or taxi in...thanks for all the feedback.

Do NOT drive into the historic district of Seville. Very narrow streets in maze-like fashion.... Then again, I've heard Naples driving is pretty crazy, so...maybe he wouldn't have any problems.
We took a train from Malaga to Seville and it was very easy.
We rented a car our last two days in Seville but parked on the outskirts of the historic center.
Parking is expensive, but car rental for the five of you will be cheaper than five train tickets. On the other hand, by the time you pay for parking, over a few days, it may approach the cost of the train. The slower and cheaper train to Seville goes through some very nice scenery too .

We took a train from Malaga to Seville...think it was 2 hours. easy.
I was in Seville in August...hot..hot
Best to do site-seeing in the early part of the day. In the afternoon , the city was dead .

We have experienced 47oC in Seville and it does dip much at night.
One option would be our usual hotel - Plaza de Armas. It isn't spectacular, it is a solid 4 star business type hotel. It has the huge advantage of having a good sized roof top pool. It is also about 10 minutes walk from the centre.

You will probably want a car for your stay in Marbella, and a car will be cheaper than train tickets for five. Try to get a diesel. You should be able to park on the street, but even if you have to use a garage, it won't be that expensive and you'll have the comfort of your own car which you'll be able to take for a bit of wandering. Yes, Andalucia is very hot in summer, but that's part of the "Spain Experience".

I'm traveling in late August with young children and Andalucia may be too hot from what I'm reading. Would beach areas north of Barcelona be a better choice, and how are the beaches themselves? I'd like wide open sandy spaces, not little inlets or coves.
