Amsterdam this week-end (3 days) - airport & itinerary query

Jump to last reply

Professional couple in our 50s, flying to Amsterdam this week-end. Will be our first trip there. We like history, music, art, museums, churches, eating out, wandering about, a bit of shopping, and learning new things/more things about a culture.

Arrive early afternoon Sat; leave early evening Mon. Staying at Hotel Estherea, Canal Ring NL 1012WJ

Already have tickets to Rijks, which is the main reason we wanted to visit Amsterdam.

Other than soaking up the atmosphere, these are the things I read about on various Fodors threads that sound appealing (the Six Collection sounds fab, but it looks like they only allow visitors during the week) :

* Van Gogh Museum
* The Hermitage
* Dutch Resistance Museum
* Troppen Museum
* Museum of Our Lord in the Attic
* Vondel Park
* The Heineken Experience
* Canal Boat Tour
* Apple cake and coffee at Winkel
* A brownie

Am sure we'd never fit all of these in but people watching (Vondel Park), Apple cake/coffee (Winkel), and at least one of the other museums would probably round out the top 3. Immediately followed by the brownie. :-)

QUERY #1:
Could someone help with the logistics of which of these places are within walking distance of our hotel and which ones to group together based on location?

QUERY #2:
Is it easy enough to grab a taxi from the airport to the hotel (anything in particular we need to know about that) - and how much should we expect to pay?

Thanks very much! Everyone's help here a few months ago was invaluable as we planned our first Italy trip (Venice and Rome).

Denise

P.S. Left Anne Frank house off the list as we're not particularly keen
