Amsterdam: Recommendations on places to visit and eat

Hello all,
we are headed to amsterdam in a few weeks and will be there for about 1 week. Looking for recommendations on where to eat and places to visit. We are up for some day trips outside of amsterdam as well.

Thanks in advance!

It is not on the typical "must see" list for the city but I would not miss the Amsterdam Museum, very well curated and interesting, one of the best history museums I have seen anywhere.

Don't miss the Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank House, the Vondelpark, the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt Museum, the Royal Palace and, of course, the Heineken Experience . For trips outside Amsterdam, I would suggest Leiden, Bruges and Zaanse Schans.

My two cents about Amsterdam with the aid of many others' valuable inputs!

we enjoyed bird restaurant, and jaime oliver's 15 for dinner.
House of Bols was very cool and entertaining for a post lunch visit.
Be sure to get your tickets to Anne Franck house as early as possible, and the lines do go around the block. And please note, it's is for the able bodied only, it's not easy to maneuver about once inside. (steep stairs, small spaces, etc...)
