Amsterdam-Museum District

I am considering a 2nt stopover in Amsterdam which I've been to before but many years ago. I like the idea of The College Hotel but unsure of it's location and if it's walkable to the canals? I love to walk and would like to avoid transport once I arrive at the hotel so need something central. I will probably not be going to museums this trip and the weather should be good for walking in August. Any advice on this area is appreciated. Thanks.

moremiles, I spent two nights in Amsterdam on a stopover from an E African trip a couple of years ago. Stayed at the Toren (164 Keizersgracht), but walked all over, including the area by your chosen hotel without any problems. Had a long lunch with a couple of glasses of wine on the terrace of some restaurant near the College Hotel--excellent people watching!

I managed to cram in several museums, churches, lots of hanging out, leisurely dining, and even a bit of shopping in two days. It is a joy to walk in Amsterdam. Unless you are unfit, I can't see these distances being an impediment for you. Definitely walkable to the canals by my standard.

Have a great trip.

central Amsterdam is very very compact - a few square miles and you can walk everywhere from practically any in town hotel. The Museum Plein area is a great place to stay - short walk to canals and a very safe quiet area.

I would strongly suggest the Owl Hotel
http://www.owl-hotel.nl/gb/

Centrally located on a quiet street about a 3 minute walk to the Leidesplein, and < 10 minute walk to the Museumplein

I would also suggest the Sama Sebo for dinner. Not far from the hotel and an authentic Rijstafel dinner.

From the Leidesplein is it a nice walk down towards Dam Square. If you do take a tram, there are several tram lines that converge on the Leidesplein.

Thanks all. I am still deliberating as to which hotel but it sounds pretty easy to walk everywhere.
