Thanks all. I have read great things about the Hotel Brouwer as well. Do you know how much in advance is needed to book. The Canal House photos on TripAdvisor look nice as well, but I went on the website and they stated it is closed for renovation until Spring 2009. I wonder if I have the right address.

halsa - did you go here: http://www.hotelbrouwer.nl/index.html I didn't see anything on their site about being closed until 2009.
Last year, I booked a mid-August stay in April, so you should be safe with 3-4 months in advance. Maybe 2, depending on the season.

I forgot to add, the other hotel I was interested in is:

Might fit your budget, depending on when you're travelling.

We had a canal view room at the Armada Hotel near Rembrandtplein, and for a good price. The problem is the beds were terrible. But they were renovating, so maybe they have better beds by now. The room was very small, but the bathroom was newly done.
