Amsterdam, Brussels, Bruges itinerary
We have 6 days for this trip, arriving early Sunday and leaving Saturday morning. We are from New York and can arrive in Brussels and depart from Amsterdam or vice versa, or perhaps arrive and depart from the same city. Would appreciate ideas for an itinerary. We will not get to do this trip again and would like to see the highlights. Thanks, Cathy

Brussels - one day more than enough for most - Brugge one day there and one day day-tripping to either Gent or Antwerp - Amsterdam three days with a short day trip to see a real Dutch town, like nearby Haarlem. Tot Ziens!

Since you only have a few days, I would suggest beginning in Amsterdam, allowing a few days to recover from the flight. A'dam is a great entry point because it's a manageable, comfortable city, easy to get acclimated to, with plenty of late night eateries to help you while you adjust. You could spend Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Amsterdam, take the first morning train to Bruges on Wednesday for one night, spending Thursday morning in Bruges before training to Brussels for the remainder of Thursday, all day Friday and your flight home on Saturday morning. For one night in Bruges, I have left my bags at the Bruges train station, taking only the bare essentials for one night. This allows you to enjoy the delightful, cobblestone laden walk to the center of town and back without the hassle of dragging all your bags.
