Amsterdam and ?????

Hi,
I'm looking to travel to Europe mid to late September this year. I'm thinking of going to Amsterdam and wondering what suggestions for other cities than are easy to travel to from there. I was thinking of Prague and then maybe one more city? Is Italy too far to include? I love Italy and would love to go back there, I was in Paris, Barca, and Madrid last year. Would love to hear some thoughts. Also the "how to get there". Thank you

You can fly a lot of places in Europe from Amsterdam, so if you can open-jaw into Amsterdam out of the other city (or vice versa) and find a cheap, direct flight from Amsterdam to the other city, that would probably work fine. I'd use Kayak.com to check the open jaw fares and look for the direct flight between Amsterdam and the other city.

Prague is lovely. It combines well with Vienna and/or Budapest by train. You could do Prague, Vienna, Budapest easily if you have the time, all connected by good train service.

Some people would prefer not to have the extra flight in the middle and might want to combine Amsterdam with other nearby cities they can get to by train - like cities in Belgium (Bruges and maybe Brussels) or of course Paris. Up to you!

nothing is too far.. it depends on how much time you have.. is this a two week trip.. or like a 5 day trip.. answers will count on more specifics.

Thank you both for your replies. It will be about a 15 day trip. I thought we could fly into Amsterdam and either Fly or take a train in between and then fly back to the US from the last city.

On my first trip to Prague, I spent four nights in Prague, two in Vienna, and three in Budapest. That worked well for me. You could do that too and also start or end in Amsterdam. Or do less and spend more time in each place. Personal preference.

It depends on what YOUR interests are and what YOUR preferences for traveling are. Consult rome2rio.com for transportation options; go to any library to consult guidebooks to learn more about what might meet YOUR interests.

Just as some examples based on ideas presented so far in this thread: I wanted 5 days for my first visit to Amsterdam, 5 for my first to Prague, 6 for Vienna, 5 for Budapest, etc. Really, people differ tremendously in these things and ONLY you can decide what makes sense for you.

Good luck!

Leiden, Delft, Ghent, Antwerpen, Brussels, Bruges, Rotterdam, Paris, London...the possibilities are endless. Hunker down with some guidebooks and figure out where YOU want to go.

For the cities you are mentioning, you should fly.

Nothing you name is too far. If you love Italy, go there, why not. Prague would be great, also.

Skyscanner.net is a great website that includes all carriers in Europe, you can get nonstop AMS-PRG in September for about 70 euro or less on Easyjet or CzechAir. Trip is only 1:30 hrs. Similar deals to Rome on Easyjet or Vueling (even cheaper a bit) and trip takes 2:15 hrs.

You can do any of those

I agree with the other posters that you need to decide where you'd like to go. Amsterdam is a major hub so you can get to many places easily by either train or plane. Easy to get a cheap flight to Prague and also many other places. We trained between Budapest and Prague ( a long ride but we loved both cities); its also easy to get from Prague to Vienna, which would make a great 3 city trip if that is your want. Really from AMS you can get just about anywhere easily and fairly cheaply on EasyJet, Vueling, etc.

Amsterdam- Belgium- Paris also is a logical combination by high speed train that we've done too. Lots of options! Both Amsterdam and Prague are popular hubs for low cost air carriers so you could get cheap flights between AMS, Prague and say Milan/Venice/or Rome too if that's what you want to consider.
