Amsterdam Airport to Jordaan - car service or taxi?

Hello Fodorites!

We arrive late on a Friday night into Amsterdam airport and need to get to an address in Jordaan. Is the best way to take a taxi? How much would that be approximately? Or do they have car services in Amsterdam that are cheaper, like in London?

Thanks so much!

Car service will be the same as a taxi. All cars must be licensed. Those cars have special blue plates. A lot of taxis will be Mercedes, Tesla etc.

More information from the tourist website.

You could book a car service to be sure of being met, but there will be plenty of taxis there. Be sure the vehicle has blue plates, and their licence displayed. Do not accept an offer from someone inside the terminal or just outside.
If you pre-book you must go to the Service Transfer Assistance desk in Schiphol Plaza to meet your driver.
Alternatively just follow the signs to taxis.
By booking ahead you are sure of the price, and can usually pay in advance online.
On the Schiphol website they have a link to one such service, where you can book, but of course there are others.

Thanks so much!

Sounds like just going to the taxi rank is just as easy as booking.

We have done every mode in A-dam: train/tram; taxi; car service. Frankly, I define "best" as a combination of the fastest and most direct/convenient/fewest changes of mode and that "best" for us can change depending on the time of day.

Your journey is not going to be cheap by many folks' standards but I would agree with walking out and getting into a taxi.

Totally agree Dukey, normally we would take the train but at that hour I just want to get to where we are going with the least fuss.

It looks like it will cost about €40...more than I would like to spend but we can take the train back to the airport.

The general consensus is not to pay 'upfront'. If your car fails to show up, it can be very difficult to get re-imbursed (We were there...Where were you...?)
People are obviously free to choose their preferred mode of transport, but a lot of visitors come with the preconceived idea from a bad experience in their home town that taxis are not reliable, they will take a circuitous route, the drivers are unpleasant etc. This is not the case in most of Western Europe.
