It might help if you could define the term "inexpensive."

The closest hotels to the terminal, besides the (I think it is a) Mercure which is located IN the terminal, are the Seraton and the Hilton which are connected to the terminal complex by walkway.

Other hotels are close by and some offer transportation to and from..here is a link to a list:

BTW..that list indicates the Sheraton is .7 km from the airport..it isn't; it is located directly across the street from the main (foot traffic) entrance and exit.

Here's a link to the Mercure: http://tinyurl.com/y4bpcb

The link to the airport site is www.schiphol.nl (there's an English version)

You realize that you can be in the center of the city in 20 minutes by train which leaves directly from the airport.

Why not use the train and stay in the city? I don't know of any hotels that offer free transportation, but there is also the Connexxion hotel shuttle bus that runs from the airport to a loop around all the city hotels.

The Ibis is probably the least expensive and has an airport/hotel shuttle.

ETAP, as usual in the shadow of the airport area IBIS is the cheapest Schiphol hotel with free shuttles to terminals - same shuttle as IBIS and Dorint hotels, all owned by Accor hotels (www.accorhotels.com) - i've stayed several times in the ETAP and it's the cheapest, about 55 euros a room for up to three i think. Shuttle bus picks you up right outside Customs.
