AMERICAN TO GATWICK FROM DALLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ill be traveling to London on the 2nd of June by American Airlines from Dallas TX. Is it true that American A flights are not so good to Europe? What is the best way from Gatwick to London?

We use American all the time to Europe. No problems. There are trains that run from gatwick to London, I believe. We used a cab a few years ago. not cheap, but not bad either when shared with another couple.

American to Europe is fine, absolutely no problem. We have flown American in the past three years from DFW to Milan, Manchester, Gatwick, Frankfurt and Paris, all non-stops by the way. There are trains from Gatwick to a major Under-ground station, they run frequently, are easy to find and I think last time, about $12.00 round trip. Feel free to e-mail direct if you have any questions.

A train runs from Gatwick to Victoria Station in London. Takes about 40 minutes and costs equivalent of $12.00 or so. A bargain considering alternatives.

Dear Patrick: Are you SURE you're flying on American to GATWICK? They usually fly to Heathrow. Otherwise the advice you've been given here is good and accurate (especially the last poster). I'm lucky because I have a sister who is a British resident and she drives me (thank goodness!). Don't try to move too much baggage via Gatwick tho'--there are several flights of steps at both ends and NO redcaps. Have a good trip! Joan

HELLO FROM SAN FRANCISCO!!

JUST A FEW COMMENTS ON FLYING INTO GATWICK. MY WIFE AND I WENT FROM PARIS TO LONDON THREE YEARS AGO
AND WE WENT THROUGH GATWICK INSTEAD OF HEATHROW.
GATWICK WAS LESS CROWDED THAN HEATHROW, BUT IT'S FARTHER AWAY FROM THE CITY'S CENTER AND MORE
DIFFICULT AND EXPENSIVE TO GET FROM. WE STAYED
JUST OUTSIDE HYDE PARK. WE DECIDED TO TAKE A TAXI
AS THE TRAIN CONECTIONS DIDN'T SEEM EASY AND
CONSIDERING WE HAD A LOT OF LUGGAGE. THE RIDE WAS
ABOUT 45 MINUTES AND WAS ABOUT 30 POUNDS. BUT THE
VIEW WAS INTRIGUING AS WE MADE OUR WAY THROUGH
BURGS THAT WERE THE STARTING POINTS FOR THE LIKES
OF ROGER DALTRY, TRACY ULLMANN, AND A SCENE FROM
THE CRYING GAME. SO, IF YOU'RE INTO A COOL BUT PRICY CAB RIDE STAY WITH GATWICK. IF NOT, CHANGE YOUR FLIGHT TO HEATHROW.

Patrick, We are flying out of DFW to Gatwick on June 2, American #78 at 3:55pm. We are going on a Trafalgar tour and are being met by transfer vehicle and taken to the hotel. I wonder if hotels provide transfer service like they do here?

Richard & Bob, The trains that you speak of from Gatwick Airport to Victoria Station - is this the "Gatwick Express" I have read about?

There is a site on the internet called Hotel, Airport & City transfers for airport/hotel pick up by chauffeur driven luxury cars or minivans. Driver will hold up a sign with your name on it at a pick-up point. From Heathrow it is 25 pounds per car. You may E-mail them at [email protected] for an advance price quote. Haven't tried them yet.

When arriving at Gatwick Airport, the cheapest and fastest way of getting to London is the Gatwick Express Train. It runs every 15 minutes from Gatwick South Terminal. In 40 minutes you will be at Victoria Station - a major mainline as well as underground station. The cost one way is approximately 9 pounds.
