American Express Global Travel Shield Trip Insurance??

I know insuremytrip.com is the recommended site on this wonderful forum, but I was wondering if anyone has used the trip insurance company, Global Travel Shield, that American Express refers you to. The cost seems less than the plans on insuremytrip. I have missed the deadline for pre-existing conditions because I didn't get to this site soon enough!!

Hi Lulu,

American Express is a very reputable company. I have been using them for over 40 years.

As with all insurance, read the fine print.

Thanks Ira for the reply. I have requested the documents so I can "read the fine print." My dilemma is because I missed the pre-existing timeframe and they only go back 60 days to check on health issues, do I wait for 60 days to purchase the insurance? Since my husband has heart problems and this trip is VERY expensive, I don't know whether to buy it now or wait.

Hi LuLu,

I'm not sure about this, so I suggest that you call AMEX, but I think that your husband's heart condition (if it has been long-term and chronic) is a pre-existing condition no matter when you buy the policy.

Ira,

I think I will just "bite the bullet" and not worry about pre-existing issues. Many other things could go wrong (he has a 90 year old aunt and I have an 86 year old mother, if you catch my drift)and at least we will be covered for any other problems. Thank you for your input--I value your opinions.

Lulu

Hi L,

I catch your drift. I agree that Cancellation Insurance should be your most important concern.

Have a nice visit.
