Amboise Hotel; Help in Choosing
I have narrowed down my search between the following hotels in in Amboise (Loire Valley) for one night. Finally, the last night to be bookd!
Any feedback on experiences would be appreciated. These are not listed in any particular order.
1) La Breche
2) Bellevue
3) Le Lion D'Or
Thanks in advance for feedback.

I stayed in Amboise 2 nights in late May, and although I did not stay at the hotels you have listed, we did enjoy our stay at Le Vieux Manoir. Gloria and Bob Belknap were extremely helpful, and the home is lovely. We enjoyed visiting Le Clos Luce, and driving to Chenonceau and Chambord. It's a beautiful area.

I spent several days in Amboise and the Loire three weeks ago and stayed at the Belle-Vue. I liked it a lot and will return there next year. Nice buffet breakfast and friendly staff. Two doors away is the Le Lion D'Or. Both are at the base of the Chateau Amboise right on the Loire River and in the very center of town. You can walk to anyplace in town in a few minutes. La Breche is not nearly as good a location as it is about a 15 minute walk across the river and about 100 meters from the train station. There is not much of anything close to it but the train station.
I much prefer being at the chateau, along the river and in the center of everything.
Have fun, Amboise is a great little town.

We stayed at Hotel La Breche and liked it very much. It is a three minute walk from the train station and a pleasant 10- 15 minute walk across the Loire River Bridge to the center of town and the chateau.
When we stayed there, Amboise was very crowded , and it was nice to stay a little away from the crowds.
The dinner the La Breche was very good and reasonably priced- actually better food than at the other places we ate in Amboise.
There is a pretty garden by the side of the hotel with a huge hollow tree- large enough to stand inside, and a small pond with gold fish and at that time, baby ducks swimming in it. This would be a great place for children to play. There is also a ping pong table in the yard.

I was very happy with the Bellevue. We stayed in a room with view on the river and a patio shared with a few other rooms. It was warm and just left the doors to the patio open for a breeze. I realize that this would make some people uncomfortable. It didn't bother me and we slept fine. Enjoy!

We stayed at Le Breche last year and found it to be very nice. Our Room was quite big and had a full sized bath.
I agree with Sally, it was nice to be out of the way from the crowds but still within very easy walking distance. There is also a nice boulangerie and charcuterie on that side of the river.

I liked the Bellevue a lot--nice people. I just wouldn't go for their cheapest room (I'm sure they thought they were being kind putting me in a single, but they moved me to a nice double). I loved being right off a big square within walking distance of everything. (I loved the elevator also.) My favorite restaurant was l'Epicerie, a couple of blocks from the chateau down the main drag. Good food, nice people. I noticed that there were many tourists who were eating there every night (including me). See my trip report (toward the middle) for more info. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...mp;tid=1371813

Thank you all for the great input. I've decided on Bellevue and put a request in through Logis de France, now I am waiting for a response. I envision dropping off our luggage and heading up to Chambord & Vendome, then coming back to Amboise and staying in town.
The next morning we'll head up to Orleans to return our car & catch a TGV into Paris for the following week. Finally, we can stay in one hotel for the whole week.
What a great group of fodorites. Where else can one go to get first hand knowledge/opinion/guidance. Thank you again.
