amalfi or positano

my husband and I are traveling to europe in sept to celebrate our 25th anniversary.. we are spending 4 nights in rome than off to the Amalfi coast for 4 nights and then on to Paris also for 4 nights.. should we stay in Amalfi (santa caterina hotel) or in Positano (eden Roc) Is there any nightlife in amalfi? how far is the walk/drive to positano?

I loved Positano and would always choose it over Amalfi. You cannot walk between Amalfi and Positano (unless you do the Walk of the Gods up in the hills) and the time it takes to bus between the two towns depends on the traffic. The best way to get between Amalfi and Positano is via ferry, which is a 25 minute ride.

But I agree - do a search and you will find tons of threads on the topic.

There's much more choice in Positano, hotels, restaurants etc. Positano is more picturesque too. The Eden Roc is a really good hotel...no contest for me, Positano every time.

Make it unanimous for Positano. It's also better situated for day trips to Capri and Sorrento. If you really want to see Amalfi, take the ferry and spend the day.
