Amalfi Coast- Up, down, West, East?

Jump to last reply

As part of Best of Italy trip,we (mid-50's couple)will be reaching the Amalfi Coast from the east, coming from Matera by car. First city is Salerno, and Google maps is routing us north and over to Castellamare di Stabia, then to Sorrento.
I am seriously thinking of cutting a dayor 2 off our Amalfi itinerary to spend more time in Puglia. In that case, we would use Ravello or Amalfi or Maiori as a base, then drop the car in Salerno and train to Naples.
My question (finally) is, has anyone gone Up the Amalfi Coast, instead of Down? Okay, I know, it runs more or less West to East, so, revised question, has anyone driven west along the Amalfi instead of starting at the Sorrento end? And would you recommend it?
