Amalfi CoasT Hotel

WE are planning to go for 5 days to Amalfi Coast. Can somebody recommend which part is better to stay: Sorrento? Positano or Amalfi.
We are looking for sea views and the price
around 200Euro/night.

Sorrento or Positano would be my choices. I've stayed at the Bellevue Syrene (overlooking the Bay of Naples)in Sorrento and loved it. Depending on time of year, it might be within your budget. www.bellevuesyrene.it

Do you plan to do trips to Capri & Pompeii while there? If so, Sorrento would be a good base for exploring those areas.

Positano is beautiful too. Maybe divide your time between the two?

I wouldn't stay in Amalfi...just visit for half a day. That's enough time there.

Positano, Positano, Positano. Once you see the views from this unimagineable cliffside town of Amalfi you will swoon.

Sorrento is nice but Positano is, well,...Positano. No words to describe it.

Hi m,

If you wouldn't mind aying half that amount, I can highly recommend the Le Sirene in Praiano.

Positano is much more charming, beautiful, and romantic than Sorrento, but Sorrento has better transportation options to Pompeii, Capri, and many of the towns along the coast.

If you were to add two more days to your stay, you could rent a fairly good-size apartment for that kind of money. We did that in Positano, and were quite pleased.

Just another option...

Hi M,

I have just returned from the Amalfi Coast and IMO it would be Positano or Praiano. Sorrento is nice (I spent 5 days there) but it was 2 days too long. It is big and very touristy - OK, Positano is touristy also but much much nicer. I did a day trip to Capri and IMO it was not long enough. When I go back agin (which I will) it will be 3 days Ravello (pure magic and again IMO the nicest place on the Amalfi Coast but very small so it may not appeal to all), 3 days Positano, 2 days Capri and if I have time 2 days Sorrento in order to visit Pompei again and see what I missed.

Capri is as easily reached from Positano as it is from Sorrento but Pompei requires a bus ride to Sorrento (about 1 hour but spectular) and then a train ride.

You will love the Amalfi coast but bring lots of money an ice cream in Capri is 5E!! the only thing cheap is wine, even a bottle of water is more expensive than the wine!!

Enjoy your trip - pure magic

Hi,
Try the Tramonto D'Oro in Praiano. Fabuous sea views and views of Positano. Great owners and wonderful roof top pool. Have fun.

Hi mybusik --

We just returned from staying 4 nights in Positano at the Hotel California. We paid E150/night. For our money, we got incredible service, a giant room, and a gorgeous balcony overlooking the town and sea.

You can click my name to see my recent trip report. Good luck!
