Amalfi Coast, Capri, Naples - First time in southern Italy

Jump to last reply

DH and I will celebrate our 65th birthdays in southern Italy in September 2016. I'm new to the forum, but have read many of your topics and trip reports in planning this trip. We are active and enjoy walking/hiking, historical sites, music, good food & wine and soaking in the places that we visit. We will use public transportation as from everything I've read here it is the smartest choice. We will fly in and out of Naples and this is the itinerary I have come up with:

Land in Naples - train to Salerno for 1st night
Day 2 - train to Paestum for most of the day, train back to Salerno, ferry to Amalfi (4 nights)
Day 3 - Ravello - (by bus) hope to include the evening concert @ Villa Rufolo
Day 4 - Positano (by ferry?) - guided walking tour?, Fornillo Beach?
Day 5 - Amalfi - Duomo, Paper Mill Museum, hike the Valle di Mullini or Valle Delle Ferrierre
Day 6 - Ferry to Capri (2 nights) - Gardens of Augustus, boat trip?
Day 7 - Anacapri - Mount Solaro, Villa San Michele & Church, Blue Grotto?
Day 8 - ferry to Naples (3 nights) - Archaeology Museum - PIZZA (lots of it)
Day 9 - Pompeii (train) & maybe Oplontis
Day 10 - Naples - historical center, Galleria Umberto, Castel Dell'Ovo - funicular to Certosa di S Martino?
Day 11 - 6 am flight out of Naples

Comments on Itinerary? Suggestions of things to do in these places other than mentioned? and,
1. is there luggage storage at the Salerno train station?
2. what are the transportation options after the evening concert in Ravello?
3. is there too much planned for the day we explore Naples?

Thanks for your consideration.
3.
