You ask 5 people and you are going to get 5 answers.
Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Capri, even Praiano (that was for Ira).
Do you want to visit all the towns during your week? If so then Ravello may not be the best location.
For my trip (I'm going in Sept) I found Positano to be the best location.
What does your trip look like?

You have to realize that nothing on the Amalfi coast is a "hub." The towns of the Amalfi coast are strung along a single narrow road that has more twists than a strand of spaghetti. Ravello isn't even on that road; it's uphill you have to take another very twisted road to get to it.
There are two kinds of trips people take to that area: One kind is to relax by a terrace and a pool and enjoy the views for several days. The other kind is to see Pompeii, Capri, Positano, Ravello -- in other words, a lot of moving about.
If just laying about is not your style and you want to see Pompei, consider staying in Sorrento.
If you want to lay about and live like the idle rich, Ravello is a great choice, and others recommend Positano or Capri.

We just got back and our base was Praiano. We stayed at a villa run by Pensione Pellegrino which is wonderful (but no pool) There's a bus that covers from Positano to Amalfi and the SITA bus can take you all over the coast. Both cost 1E. We just hopped on a bus and went to the beach or wandered through the towns. It was perfect.

Unless something has changed in the last year, you can't buy SITA bus tickets on the bus. There are numerous places to buy tickets beforehand and then stamp then as your board.
The local Positano orange line tickets can be purchased on board.

We recently spent 4 nights in Sorrento and I would agree with previous postings--it all depends on what you want to do while you are there. Sorrento has better transportation connections to Naples, Pompeii and Capri. The train line ends in Sorrento and from there it is by car or bus. If you are going to luxuriate, then stay in one of the towns further up the coast. The road from Sorrento up the coast is full of hairpins. We had a car and parked it at our hotel until we left. Took the bus from Sorrento to Positano and the boat back. We also enjoyed a daytrip to Capri. Also, boat connections are fewer in the off months. We stayed at Hotel Settimo Cielo on Via Capo and had a balcony and a terrific view of the bay of Naples. Highly recommend it!
