There is, I think, a HOHO canal cruise. Or you can get a ride around the city on the regular trams, taking the 5 one way between Centraal Station and the Concertgebouw, and the 16 the other. The trams will take you close to pretty well anywhere you want to go in Amsterdam, and the system isn't difficult to understand.

I don't know if there's a HOHO bus in Amsterdam, but why would you need one? It's a relatively small, compact city that can be easily navigated on foot, and there are boat tours that point out the major sights.
You do have Google, I assume, since you can access Fodors.

For the Amsterdam most of us think of as quintessential - canals, bridges, old buildings with the winches (with a bit of luck you'll see a piano or big wardrobe being taken up and in through a window - quite a sight!) - by far the best way to really see it and let it sink in is to follow canals on foot. Be aware of the gradual curving around, in a sort of horseshoe fashion - what may start out in a southerly direction may end up taking you east and almost north after a good walk.
Then learn how to use the trams - better than any bus could be.

doing a search throws up a number of tours.

I would also suggest you check out the website for the city.http://www.iamsterdam.com. It will give you some other ideas of what you can explore.
These are not my ideal way of exploring a city but I have heard they allow one to get their bearings. If your trip is ultra short they also come in handy.
Some of these tours leave the confines of the city too.

There is a museum boat last I knew that gives you a canal cruise and have stops by major museums and Anne Frank House- hop on hop off.
Otherwise yes central tourist Amsterdam is surprsingly compact and very walkable -it is often what you see by walking between the sights that are as good as the sights themselves IME (as well as street snacks!).
