Alkmaar to Brussels - things to see?
Hi,
We will be in Alkmaar for cheese market. I think it gets over around 12 noon and then we will be driving to Brussels.
We like scenic places and not interested in museums. We are not hikers.
What all things we can see and do in half a day?
We are already visiting Amsterdam, Ghent, Brugge, Brussels.
Thanks

The following route takes you through essentially Dutch landscape:
# Alkmaar - Schermerhorn (windmills) - De Rijp (historical village) - Middenbeemster (17th century land reclamation) - Purmerend (for the A7 motorway)
# (motorways) Gouda (also famous for its cheese; parking might be a problem) - Stolwijk - Bergambacht - Schoonhoven (river ferry to Nieuwpoort)
# Nieuwpoort (tiny historical town) - Streefkerk (along the river) - Kinderdijk (windmill complex)
# Dordrecht (nice historical city; good for a stroll and an afternoon coffee; parking might be a problem)
# continue to Brussels
The www.viamichelin.com maps shows it all very clearly (for smaller roads and towns you have to zoom in).
Enjoy!

You could follow the Vecht river for a bit (between Amsterdam and Utrecht). Lovely area. Of obviously stop in Antwerp.
Count on a 3 hour drive if you take the motorway; so not that much time for visiting other places and driving the scenic route. you want to avoid getting to Antwerp between 5 and 7 pm or so, rush hour can be pretty bad.
Perhaps best to time your journey so that you get to Brussel late. Brussel traffic can be pretty bad too.
