Well, that would depend on where you are flying from. (We are not mind readers.)
It is when the demand is low.
Before analytics, the companies relied in historical trends and adjusted the fares in more predictable manner. With analytics, the price is market driven. If they sense demand, no airlines leave money on the table anymore by keeping the prices low. The prices are manipulated daily to capture the highest revenue predicted by the analytics. There are historically low months, but for a particular flight on a particular day, the price is set by the demand curve of that market segment.
Don't rely on rule of thumb. Compare actual fares, play with itineraries, departure/return dates, different airports, and sign up to receive fare news.
Hi W,

>When is the cheapest month to fly to Italy
I think mid-Jan to mid-Feb.
Check www.kayak.com, www.1800flyeurope.com
I thought it was mid Nov to early Dec.

Thanks, I didnt think about adding this to the question. I would be flying in the summer. Thanks for the replys. Keep them coming, need more info.
Check http://matrix.itasoftware.com/ and use their "use calendar of lowest fares" instead of exact dates. You can then find the least expensive dates for travel based on the length of your stay. You cannot book your airfare through this website- they will direct you to the airline to book.
Happy hunting!
>When is the cheapest month to fly to Italy... I would be flying in the summer.<

Which are less expensive rubies or emeralds?
Summer is not when you find cheap airfare.
EasyJet and Ryan Air are usually the cheapest carriers.
If you're not flying from the UK but rather from Germany then check out Air Berlin or Germanwings.
