Airbnb Scam - Appartments in Germany

Jump to last reply

Hello,

I live in Berlin, Germany. The Airbnb website has a high reputation in Germany and is widely used. I want to make users aware of the following issue because it might concern other cities/countries as well and prevents people from getting tricked. Their emails are in English.

Several cases of fake appartment offers are on the major proporty website in germany, immowelt.de. When contacting the supposed owners of the property, they reply by saying that the owner is not living in Germany therefore Airbnb will manage the delivery of key and contract.
The keys are delivered after an inital deposit is made.

I suppose the German property website (immowelt.de) is not the only vehicel to trick appartment seekers. If you receive a similar reply like below, be aware that the offer is a fraud.

Below are 2 original emails I received after contacting them via immowelt.de

---------------------------------------------
Hello,

You can rent the apartment for min. 2 months and max. 5 years but we can
renew the contract. The apartment is fully furnished, but if you want, you
can rent it unfurnished. The utilities costs are included.
As I told you in my first e-mail, I am in UK with my work right now. Before
leaving Germany I had prearranged the deal with Airbnb Company so my
presence in Germany isn’t necessary. The keys and all needed papers are in
their possession, ready for delivery. You will have 3 days to inspect the
the apartment before rent it. Airbnb will start the delivery for the keys
and the contract to you, but first you must deposit the value of 2 rental
months (700 euro) in their account. So if you want to make this deal please
login to the www.Airbnb.com website, and after that please send me the
following details:
Full name and address
Shipping address
Airbnb username
After I’ll receive your details I will forward them to Airbnb and I will
proceed the order. Airbnb will contact you with all the details that you
need, to complete this deal. Waiting your email with the requested details.
Best regards,

Maria Hanson

Hello,
You can rent the apartment
for min. 2 months and max. 8 years, but after the 8 years we can renew
the contract. The apartment is fully furnished, but if you want, you can
rent it unfurnished. As I told you in my first e-mail, I am
in Poland with my work right now. Before leaving Germany I had
prearranged the deal with Airbnb agency so my presence in Germany isn't
necessary. The keys and all needed papers are in their possession, ready
for delivery. You will have 3 days to inspect the apartment before rent
it. Airbnb will start the delivery for the keys and the
contract to you, but first you must deposit the value of 2 rental months
600 euro ( Kaution ) in their bank account. The deposit that you have to pay in advance is 100 % refundable if you don't like the apartment.Airbnb requests payment in advance to be sure that the client really has the intention of renting the apartment.
So
if you want to make this deal please login to the " Airbnb.com "
website, and after that please send me the following details: Full name :Address : Airbnb username:Another email: Phone Number:
After
I'll receive your details I will forward them to Airbnb and I will
proceed the order. They will send you an invoice with the payment and
delivery instructions and all you have to do is follow these
instructions and we will not have any problems .
PS. If you are decided to view the apartment let me know because there is another person interested in reserving it!
Best regards,Dr. Hanna Wojciechowska
