AIR Canada - Upgrade to Business class on Departure ay
Can anyone advise if Air Canada will allow you to upgrade to business class (for a fee) on day of travel? I have been advised not all airlines will allow this - so just wondering if it worth asking. Flight is Toronto- Frankfurt. Anyone managed to upgrade? Cost?

Thanks I did post to forum first...one responder indicated not sure if AC was one of the airlines that did upgrades (apparently not all do)....so I thought I would check this forum to see if someone has been successful experience doing so. Hope this is not an inappropriate procedure.

If you bought your ticket as part of a group travel package, I don't think they will let you upgrade at the counter. You mentioned there was a business class upgrade option when booking the trip- they aren't going to turn around and sell you the same seat at a lower price on the date of departure, because they want to protect the "integrity" of that product (they'd never be able to sell the upgrade for $5,000.00 if everyone knew they could just wait and upgrade for $1,000.00 at the counter).
That being said, don't be too disappointed- the pod seats are kind of cool but the angles can feel weird on your body, the service is underwhelming at best and the food is still pretty terrible. The ability to stretch out is really the only good thing about AC business, other than that you aren't missing out on anything special.

Thanks Apres_Londee ...can understand your rationale.
We used points three years ago and flew business class to Athens...there were soooo many controls on the seats took me hours to figure it out...but it did make the time fly and we slept well. Our service was just great.
We flew economy to Africa but stopped in Heathrow and stayed at a Yotel for 5 hours...that break made ALL the difference to the trip...unfortunately cannot find a Yotel Frankfurt option. Appreciate your response to my inquiry.

A couple times, as I went to do online checking within 24 hours, I've been asked if I wanted to upgrade. I believe the first time it was around $500 from Montreal to Brussels, and the second time, from Paris to Montreal, it was 550 Euros (this was while checking in at the airport kiosk, 3 hours before my flight).
