Ah, looking forward to our February adventure

Jump to last reply

Well, the wifey retires in January, so we have planned to spend the entire month of February in Italy, Sicily and Paris. Figure we'll hit Rome on the 2nd, spend about 9 days there (probably do a day trip up by train to Florence). I know, I'm in Rome all the time, but I have some business stuff to do at the same time.

We'll then rent the car and on the 11th drive down to Paestum, stopping at Ercolano on the way. Spend the next day in Paestum with some friends, then leave on the 13th, drive the Amalfi and spend a couple more days driving to Sicily. Still haven't made up our minds if we want to go over to the east coast or not, but probably will and add in another day or so on the boot drive. Kind of waiting for ekscrunchy's report, as she said she was kind of doing the reverse drive either this week or next.

We then figure about a week driving around Sicily, dropping off the car in Trapani and leaving for Paris around the 22nd. Yep, Ryanair, my favorite. Still need to check on the car rental prices and drop locations, but one thing we are considering is to spend the night in Beauvais because the flight doesn't get in til late, then drive to Giverny, spend some time, then down to Chartres for the night. Visit the Cathedral the next day and from there probably drive up to Versailles and hopefully be able to find a car drop location nearby. Then take the train into the city.

We have an apartment in the 2nd, so we'll spend the rest of the time in Paris, leaving on the 29th.

This is one trip I'm really looking forward to, as we really have no set agenda and no real time schedule. The only difference is that most other years I end up sending my kids to Paris or Rome in February (except in 2010) and we go at better times. Ah, so what if it is cold and rainy, at least it won't be as crowded.

I am really looking forward to Sicily, as we've not had the opportunity to visit there. It should be fun, and yes I love driving in crazy places, just not in crazy cities.

It should be an interesting trip report when we return.

dave
