Agriturismo recommendations in Tuscany for July- with KIDS
We are travelling to Tuscany before heading up to Piedmonte for a week. I am looking for an agriturismo which is moderate, has a restaurant on site, and fun for kids. We are travelling with an 11 and 6 year old, so a farm on site would be a big plus! I love the idea of a restaurant, because after spending most of our days out exploring the towns, it would be great to come back and have dinner at the hotel. I also heard that in most agriturismi it's a great experience. Thanks for your help!

For me a pool would be a must in July, maybe AC. It will get really really hot. From personal experience I can recommend these: http://www.fattorialaloggia.com/index_gb.htm http://www.salvadonica.com/index.html Book ASAP, the best options will already be gone.

stmiami,
I highly recommend Agriturismo Savernano which is located south of Florence. Here is the website:
http://www.agriturismosavernano.com/
And here is the link to reviews on TripAdvisor (which has better pictures than Savernano's website):
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...e_Tuscany.html
We've stayed at Saverano 3 times, and are heading there in about 10 days (we're currently at another agriturismo in Umbria). We've stayed at about 10 or so agriturismos (not sure if that's the plural!) over that last few years, so I feel like I can recommend this based on a number of things that might be important to you. They are:
-- the owners, David and Eva, have 2 kids that are about your kids ages or a bit older. They clearly enjoy kids and are very loving and accommodating.
-- the food is very good. Lots of things kids would like or they'll accommodate them. A must-have is David's scrambled eggs for b'fast.
-- there's a pool.
-- David is an ex-builder and a maintenance freak and it shows in the upkeep of the building and the grounds.
-- the rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are modern.
-- Savernano is a working farm, and David likes animals for his own pleasure. So they have pigs, swans, chickens, a goat, 2 donkeys, and wonderful pleasure birds for which David built they pretty cool aviaries.
-- the grounds are quite extensive, and the location fairly remote so you can let the kids roam.
-- there are lots of books and games that people have left that you can avail yourself of.
-- very good location for exploring other towns max. of 60-90 mins. away. Florence is best visited by train which is easy to access from this location. Very easy way to do Florence.
-- my favorite laundromat in Italy is located 5 mins. away in Cascia. Teeny town.
You'll definitely need a car for this one, but it seems you've got that covered. Please let me know if there's anything else I can answer!
Happy travels!

I think you are right to look for a place with a restaurant, and there are many in the area of San Gimignano and Volterra that are well-reviewed on Tripadvisor, with up-to-date reviews. Look under "specialty lodging" for both towns.

I highly recommend Poggio Asciutto just outside of Greve in Chianti. We stayed there in October of 2010. They serve a delicious breakfast, and you can also reserve dinner there as well. They have beautiful vineyards and orchards, and we found the accomodations reasonable and lovely. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with a full kitchen. They have friendly dogs and cats, and even horseback riding if you desire. They have a nice pool, though we did not swim as it was cool in October. It is a very family friendly place; in the evening, Eva and Massimo, along with their lovely young daughter, eat dinner in the dining room along with their guests; they have tables for each of their group of guests, but opportunity to interact with others and share ideas on touring, etc. They gave us excellent ideas for day tours around the area, not only the typical tourist spots, but also some great off-the-beaten path vistas, villages, and places to eat a wonderful lunch that made our trip really special. Their wine and olive oil are to die for, sadly we have run out of the wine we shipped home! We are staying there again this September for 5 nights, and will do day trips to Florence, San Gimignano, etc. from there.
