Hello! We are taking our first trip to Italy this fall and are considering staying at an agriturismo somewhere in the Umbria region for a night or two. Any recommendations?

Umbria is a very large region of Italy, with agriturismi all over it. Some parts of Umbria are dense with art cities, other parts are known for their scenic beauty, sill other parts are known for their wine.

Thanks Zeppole.... great website. We are thinking of spending a few days around Perugia, Assisi, and then Orvieto. Any pointers would be appreciated! Thanks again!

The agriturismi in that area are well-reviewed on Tripadvisor. Take a look at the category of "specialty lodging" for the towns of Assisi, Bevagna, Spello, Montefalco, Spoleto and Foligno. The countryside around ALL of those towns are rich in agriturismi and make a convenient base for all the towns that you say you want to see.

There are car rental offices in Orvieto and Foligno-- whichever is convenient to your plan.

When staying in an agriturismo, it can be nice to stay in one that serves meals on the premises. Even if you don't always have dinner there, it is a terrific option, and often it is terrific food, since dinners are based around the products of the farm.

To visit Perugia, it can be better to drive to Foligno, park and take the short train ride into Perugia, rather than navigate Perugia's maze of roads.

Finally, you don't need a car or an agriturismo to see the towns you mention. From Orvieto, you can easily reach both Perugia and Assisi with public transportation.

We stayed at La Ghirlanda two years ago. We did have the meals in the evening and we loved everything about the place. They serve Sagrantino made from their own grapes... divine.
