Agios Nikolaos OR Malia
All,
I am trying to decide in which coastal town to stay in for a couple days while in Crete. I'm favoring Central Crete or the western part of Eastern Crete.
I will be with my wife to be on our honeymoon. We will have already ventured into Heraklion and Rethymno so we are looking for a smaller more relaxing coastal town to stay in for a couple days.
My initial thoughts are to stay at Agios Nikolaos OR Malia. Which do you think I would be better off staying at. I'm open to other suggestions as well.
It is important to note that after I stay at one of these towns I will be headed to Santorini and leaving from Heraklion.

Agios Nikolaos is a small town, witha very nice small lake ( which is more famous than the city itself....) Other than that the city isn't particularly beautiful like Chania ior Rethymnon, but there are many good hotels nearby such most hotels of Elounda, or the Grand Melia.....
Still i find Agios Nikolaos more attractive compared to Malia, which is very popular among young Brits. Malia is associated more with cheap bars where teenagers are drinking without limits and end up on the streets fighting eachother, something that was brought many times to the greek media.....
So if you ask me, i would only recommend Agios Nikolaos

I found Agios Nikolaos very pretty. The lake with the bridge and port was very beatiful to me, especially at night, and the basilica was beautiful.
I only went to Malia to see the ruins and have a swim. I don't think you'll like Malia unless you want to see the palace ruins or the caves and beach- not a place for a honeymoon. The hippies reunion mid June2011 will mostly likely be busy for Malia, if that when you'll be there.
