Affordable Hotel in Amsterdam ( August )

Young couple looking for an AFFORDABLE Hotel ( or private rental ) in Amsterdam for 2 or 3 days in August.
The closer to the Canals, the better...
Thank you for any information !

What is affordable? Give a ball park figure, since what is affordable for one is cheap to someone else and way to expensive to a third.

If you look through the posts here you will find lots of suggestions for hotels.

We loved the Hotel Residence le Coin. Not sure what AFFORDABLE means, but their prices are very reasonable and their rooms include a tiny kitchenette. Great location near cafes and canals. It's comprised of six canal houses recently converted into this hotel.

For this case, there's no contest, because you are very unlikely to do better than a bid on Priceline for Amsterdam in particular. See www.betterbidding.com .

We liked our stay at the Hotel Hestia. It is next to Vondelpark, the Van Gogh and Rijk Museum. The canal is about a block away and numerous restaurants in the area.

You really have to say what you mean by affordable. (I remember one poster was looking for a family room in Rome for US$ 40 - he had been living in Asia and just wasn't used to european prices.)
