Aegean Coast route for driving Marmaris to Izmir....

We plan to do this route in late September, two weeks in a rented car . Are there any special spots not to be missed? We like small pansiyons and towns and family cafes, some interesting ruins, markets, etc. Lake Bafa, Pamukkale,Selcuk, Datca and Cesme are on our list but any other interesting stopovers, places to stay, advice etc. would be most welcome....

Seems not too many have knowledge of this route. I'll take it as a good sign that there are new areas to be explored, not that it is desolate or boring....

Tommmo, I remember giving you some info on Trip Advisor, re Doganbey, Karine, Gumuldur, Seferihisar.

The semi-coastal route from Gokova through Oren to Gumusluk near Bodrum should also be fine. We were in a hurry and did not take it on our recent trip despite the protests of our tom tom GPS (did you look at our incomplete trip report here on Fodors?)

We have traveled on the mountains of the area, distributing books and games to village schools and we loved it. It definitely is not desolate or boring.

I also hope that you get to watch the rising moon at Hayit Buku, Palamut Buku or Bozburun on Datca peninsula.

Yes OC your memory remains semi intact. From Down Under these places are exotic question marks, so we string together whatever information we can in advance for next month's travels.
It's clear there's not many contributors with good knowledge of our route, so doubly welcome advice.....

Wife is doing something sneaky to enable our Navman to download euromaps free - so a GPS is possible. When I stop at an intersection with a sign saying go left and the GPS insists on going right - well, I'm aware of the shortcomings! Especially it seems, in this poorly mapped area of Turkey....
