advise needed desperately for weekend trip

Hi guys!
we'r planning a short weekend trip from London and was checking last minute tickets.Reasonable tickets available for London Dusseldorf so pl advise me on what you think of this 3 day getaway..
Day 1-London-Dusseldorf, spend the day in Dus.
Day2-Take the train to bingen and then take the rhine river cruise/boat ride to Koblenz.
Spend the day in Koblenz and stay for the nighty.
Day 3-Any short day trips to nearby villages???Evening head back to DUS by train(how long is the journey??)
Fly back to London morning of Day4.

Thank you so much..

I'd try to fit in a litle time on the Mosel River on day 3. You can take the train to Moselkern, then maybe hike to Burg Eltz or take a boat on the beautiful Mosel -- which many prefer to the Rhine.

You might want to reconsider the length of your boat trip. The boat is slow and really eats up your time in Koblenz.

If you leave Düsseldorf on the 7:26 ICE, you will get into Bingen at 9:44. The next boat (see www.k-d.de) leaves Bingen at 10:30 and gets to Koblenz at 14:10. If you leave any later than 7:26, you can't get to Koblenz before 18:10 (6 PM).

I agree with LarryinColorado. The boat trip to Koblenz is probably really longer than you really want. I like the trip from Bingen to St. Goar. I didn't enjoy the section of the river from St. Goar to Boppard very mch.

If you take the train to Bingen, be sure to get off at Bingen Stadt instead of Bingen HBF. The KD landing is near the Bingen Stadt station.

thank you so much for the replies, but the situation seems tohave changed a bit as the Ryan air flight takes off (and lands ofcourse)at Weeze which is quite far from dusseldorf. So we were thinking of staying at Koblenz for a night and then taking a train back from koblenz to a place called Kevelaer(has any body been there?)which is close to Weeze so that its a easy journey in the morning..So any ideas on short boat trips from koblenz, we may not do Bingen at all then..

Welcome to the wonderful world of RyanErr. They are notorious for this kind of misrepresentation - using airports far from town, but giving them names that conceal their real location. Frankfurt Hahn is not Frankfurt at all; it is Hahn. Hahn is not accessible by train, and it is 1h 45m from Frankfurt by bus. It is a fact, that of the 10 most popular airports on the continent, Ryan serves exactly NONE.

Based on my own experience, you can see just about as much of the middle Rhine from the train in far less time. Also, the most interesting leg of the boat ride is from Bacharach to St. Goar. Take the boat in that direction, as the other way is against the current and takes much longer.

Bacharach can be reached by hourly train from Koblenz in about 40 minutes. If you have time before the boat leaves, walk around Bacharach and see the wall, the old Fachwerk buildings, and the ruins of the old Kloster. The boat trip takes about 40 minutes down-river to St. Goar. Take the train from there back to Koblenz. If you have time, the ruins of Rheinfels castle are well worth visiting.
