Advise for 24 yr male re Islands/Athens

Jump to last reply

Going to Athens July 7-11 and want to go to Ios as heard it was great. Get in at 2:15 pm. Can I make 4:15 ferry on Sat? or should I wait and see Athens and then go? Or is there a better island for young people? Are the main attractions open on the weekends in Athens? Please advise. Leaving at 10 am on 11th. Thanks

Realistically 2 hrs isn't enough time to get to to Piraeus. There is a slim possibility you could make it if your flight is on time, you have carry-on luggage only, and you take a taxi to the port. I would allow 30 minutes to get through passport control and another 1hr 15 min to get from the airport to Piraeus docks. That would be cutting it very fine, but if you have a back-up plan all would not be lost. There will be another ferry leaving for Paros at 5:30 pm, and you miss the 4:15 pm you should have enough time to make it. Both Hellenic Seaways and Blue Star have ticket booths next to the ferries.

There will be people waiting at the Paros port with rooms to rent, and you can quickly check in, drop off your bags, and go out for the evening. The Paros port town of Parikia has some good nightlife, and you may decide to stay there instead of going on to Ios. If you still want to go to Ios there will be a ferry from Paros at 11:45 the next morning.

Now, you will want to be back in Athens at least a day before your flight home. Since you have only four days in Greece, it may be wiser to just stay in Athens. :-)
