Advice re Monaco casino
We have one day in Monaco and would like to visit the casino. What should we know? Dress code? Hours open? Pay to get in? Are sandals acceptable? Tennis shoes? etc.

After 22:00, jacket and tie are mandatory. Even before that, you feel more comfortable in proper dress. Tuxedo and evening gown can't be wrong.
If you want to wear sandals or tennis shoes better go to Las Vegas.

I went to see the casino in July, about mid- afternoon- just to "see" it. I was dressed casually in a calf- length skirt and I wore a nice shawl over my tank top...and sandals. The "guard" at the entrance didn't even look at me- nor deny access to the youngish teens in very skimpy short shorts- but did turn away a fellow in a fishnet tank top and shorts! I toured the lobby, used the ladies' room (less impressive than I thought it would be)and spent 5 eruo on one of the slot machines off the lobby. There is a roomful of them and I believe those are the only "non- paying" options.
I believe in the evenings there is a dress code. I think the fancier rooms/options must be paid to enter- all of this should be on the website or your guide book.
The aquarium was very interesting and so was the castle- seeing the graves of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier in the church- very notable was the Jardin Exotique- incredible views- all the way to Italy!
There is a bus that tootles around between them- it was easy to find.
I did this all in one day, too.

There are different rooms and dress is different by day or night.
If you just want to peek in during the day you can be dressed business casual. If you go in the evening you will need proper attire - and if you want the inner rooms at night - expect it to look like a James Bond movie (tuxedos and cocktail dresses/evening gowns) - esp if there are some large yachts in the harbor.
If you go to the website you can get all the details.

(four senior ladies). Only going in daytime to peek in and blow a few $$ in slots just to say we've gambled there. I'm sure the slots are pretty tight anyway!!! What about jeans and sandals/sneakers, would they let us in??

It isn't like slots at the Las Vegas airport, it is a fancy casino. I suspect your sandals are very casual outdoors hiking sandals or cheap flip-flops, maybe, as it isn't really the issue of just being a sandal, as you can have very dressy evening sandals. They don't want really casually dressed people in there, or like you'd find at some cheap slots in Vegas, Reno, etc. After all, if you have guests who wear tuxes and gowns to have a real dressy night out, they don't want to be walking through areas with people in sneakers and sweatshirts -- kind of ruins the atmosphere.
It is really subjective, but you run the risk of not being allowed in if you dress like that. The website says proper dress or suitable dress, so take that for what it implies. In praticality, if you are considering wearing sandals, it sounds like it will be relatively warm weather, so you might think about wearing something nicer than sneakers and jeans, such as a casual skirt or sundress. By sundress, I just mean maybe a simple linen loose shift that is sleeveless and maybe goes to below your knee a bit. Just an idea. I do wear jeans, but they are warmer than linen slacks or skirt, so I tend to not wear jeans when I'm wearing sandals.

Me again, the one who successfully made it past the entrance while not wearing my ballgown. No Jimmy Choos, either- I think it was my chic Keens 'cause my only other shoes that trip were Crocs...
Now that you have clarified your goal, I would reiterate what I said previously, as well as the others. Make sure you go in daytime! Just look respectable- everyone else going up the stairs were obviously tourists, too. You would not be able to get farther than the room with the slot machines anyway, off the lobby- at least when I was there the big huge wooden doors to other venues were all closed, not even a glimpse was possible, and it was clearly communicated that all but the lobby was off limits to Keen- shod peasants like me.
You could pose for a photo and do the slots and pee in the ladies room but that really won't take more than an hour, tops (unless you are going to play the slot machines for hours!)...if you have a full day I highly recommend seeing some of the other sights- even just hang out in the harbor and watch the yachts! It was also fun to people watch in the beautiful courtyard areas out front. You'll have fun!
