Advice please! Swizerland, Italy, France, and Spain in only 10 days.

My husband has a break from work in Germany and has a brother who lives in the southern part of Spain, so he has decided to take an 11-Day trip down and back. As soon as I started looking at all the places he could see, I got jealous and booked a flight into Zurich to join him along his route. Now I need advice on where to spend the bulk of our time, what detours are worth it, and what to skip. I've never been anywhere amazing for vacation, so I don't want to screw up this opportunity!

The quick route already takes us through Zurich, Bern and Geneva Switzerland; Avignon France; and Barcelona, Valencia, Cordoba, and Seville Spain. We could take a slightly longer route on the way back and go through Pamplona or Bilbao Spain, Bordeaux and Dijon France, and Basel Switzerland. The first question is: can or should any of those places be skipped? The next question is whether any of these additional areas are worth the extra drive (especially considering we'll already be driving a minimum of 40 hours in 10 days), and worth taking time away from what is already on the route above. Possibilities include one easy detour that would negate Geneva but add Milan, Genoa, Nice, Monaco, and Marseille. That almost seems like a no-brainer. Another detour would negate Valencia in favor of Madrid. Another would be to try to get a look at the Matterhorn, but I havent even figured out how to do that one yet. The final two detours I'm considering would be lengthier ones to Venice and /or Florence plus Rome. On the one hand, Rome would be my top pick of European destinations, but on the other hand it's seven hours each way, I'd only be able to stay for two days at most, and it rushes the rest of the trip.

We will be traveling by car so we can make our own itineraries, but also need advice about tolls and how that works in each country.

I welcome advice from anyone who has been to these areas!
