Advice please...

Planning a one month trip to Europe:

England: 7nights
Italy: 7nights (Venice, milan, Turin)
Munich: 3nights with a day trip to Salzberg
Prague: 3nights
Berlin: 3nights
Amsterdam: 3nights
Brussels: 2nights
England: 2nights

Q1: what is the best means of getting from Italy to Munich?
Q2: from the initial cost/distance assessment, it makes sense, to me, to go Munich->Prague->Berlin! Is that wise?

Thanks!

Q1: Define "best".

Q2: Depends on your mode of transport but I see nothing wrong with it.

'Best' : time and cost

I was looking at mostly trains as the airport time, waiting, etc adds up.

Instead of Brussels/London for 4 nights at the end, why not Paris for 4 nights and fly back from Paris?

Have a great trip!!!

Train from Italy to Munich would be the least hassle.

I see no real issue with going from Munich to Prague and then to Berlin.

Munich-Prague there is a train that runs that takes 5:43 and a bus that takes 4:39.

Prague-Berlin there is a train that runs every 2 hours and it takes 4:46.

Munich-Berlin is over 6 hours by train so I would avoid that.

Remember that it takes time to get from place to place. Two nights in a place is just one full day. For me, this trip would be too much moving around, not enough staying in a place for long enough to experience some of it. You have 7 nights in England, which sounds great, but how many places are you going? How much time in transit vs. how much time in a place. Likewise for Italy. Personally, I don't like to schedule fewer than three nights for any stop. Think about how you like to travel and whether you will go home feeling like you saw the inside of a lot of train stations and didn't get to do/see/experience what you went there for.

Thanks sparks! The bus sounds better for Munich-Prague. Are there rest stops or toilet facilities?

Travelforbeer, thanks! my flight is from gatwick direct to home And I have a footie game to see on the eve of my departure!

Kathie, 7nights in England for footie games and stadium tours, 2nights in Windsor. Italy, more footie/stadium tours and well I Love Venice! It's not my first trip to England or Italy.

what time of year will you travel? I'd be tempted to end at Brussels and add the 2 days to Munich/Salzburg. I've heard London has pretty high departure taxes, so you could save some money by flying home from somewhere else. A couple of years ago, I ended a trip in Brussels, and really enjoyed it. I found Brussels to be fairly quiet, relaxed and a nice wind-down (at least compared to say, Paris or London).

Agree that it makes little sense to head back to London at the end. Do open jaw flights and spend all your time in the UK at once. And agree that you are giving some of these cities VERY short shrift - 1 days for Munich - Prague and Berlin 2 days each? I would cut something - probably Brussels - and just return from Berlin and put the extra days in places you have practically no time.

No stops but it is a very nice bus with toilets.

Excellent!

I will be travelling in March/april so I still have some time to tweak the itinerary. Cut off a couple days somewhere...

Hoping that it's not too cold then. Last year I froze my buns off in England, and being from the tropics I was a bit ill prepared for such temperatures!

Sorry, Aflaat, but I still don't see where you are allowing for time to travel between your destinations. what you have posted translates to this:

England: 7nights [6 days - where are you going to go]
Italy: 7nights (Venice, milan, Turin) [again, 6 days which will go something like this: Venice 2 nights = 1 day, then the next day at least 1/2 day travelling to Milan, 2 nights there, etc etc]
Munich: 3 nights with a day trip to Salzberg [3 nights = only 2 days so with a day trip to Salzburg, you've allowed yourself only one day there]
Prague: 3 nights [again, 2 days]
Berlin: 3 nights [2 days, again]
Amsterdam: 3 nights [i find myself being somewhat repetitious]
Brussels: 2 nights [1 day = why go?]
England: 2 nights [1 day - ditto].

I agree that it makes sense to lose the end places [save possibly Amsterdam] and redistribute amongst Munich, Prague and Berlin. At least 4 nights in each place will make a huge difference to the trip.
