advice on best rental car drop off in Paris

Hello - we will be dropping off our rental car in Paris on 19 Dec after spending a few weeks driving up from Uzes.
We then are staying in an appartment close to the Marias area. I would appreciate advice on a suburb / arrondisement /airport that would get us close enough to Paris without getting caught up in the Paris traffic - but then enables us to access a reasonable taxi ride(we will have a lot of luggage and are a family of 4)there are many options provided by the rental car hire so we have lots of choice.
Thank you

Hopefully, you will get some more specific answers. In general, I would recommend looking at train station locations, as you may be able to drop off all your luggage (with one passenger) right at a taxi stand.

I am not so intimidated by Paris traffic, and I might recommend the alternative stratgy of driving straight to your hotel... then engage a taxi to lead you to a nearby car rental return station, which your hotel (landlord, in your case) has rcommended to you in advance. You will, of course, need to pay the taxi driver.

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi nic,

What are your options from the rental agency?

Just returned from France and had no problem picking up or dropping our rental car off at CDG. We picked up from Terminal 2 after arrival and drove through Normandy and Brittany, then dropped off at Terminal 1. We then picked up the RER to get to our apartment in the 11th. However, the taxi stands are very convenient at the airport, as well.

I'd recommend dropping the car off at a train station (lyon, Chartres, Tours, e.g.) and taking an easy train ride back into the city, then a taxi to your hotel.

I would drop it off at Orly. You will be on the right side of Paris and it is easy. You drive into the rental return, load your luggage on a trolley and literally walk across the street to the taxi stand. Orly is closer so the cab fare is only about 20€. And you CAN get a taxi for 4.

Porte Maillot would be very convienent and many of the car rental agencies have an office there.

If you drop it off on the Peripherique (previous post) be sure to have the exact address and a map to get to it.

I agree with Gretchen, but in the city itself I would choose the Gare de Lyon.

We recently picked up and dropped off a car (Hertz) at Porte Maillotte (Sp?). It was easy to get to, very convenient location near the Arc de Triumph. BUT- the trouble is traffic. If you are arriving in Paris on a Sunday, the traffic is really bad coming into the city. If you are counter-current, should be a piece of cake provided you have good maps. The French people actually drive very sanely, better than in some US cities. Its just that there are SO MANY of them on the road at one time!
