Advice on a quicky solo trip

I'm onsidering grabbing a winter sale fare to Paris or Amsterdam for a mid-Feb trip. I am interested in flying to a warmer area in southern Spain or Portugal once inside Europe. Looking for suggestions on possible locations/itinerary to combine with Amsterdam or Paris. I'd want to put the focus on the Spain/Portugul part over the Paris/Amsterdam part as those are cities I will move through many more times. They would just be used as my connecting cities (which may require an overnight on one or both ends of the trip)

I'm looking for nice scenery, good food, smaller towns over big cities with a bit of sight seeing to fill my time. My Spanish is crap and my porteguese is worse so university towns might be especially good for the amount of english spoken in them? Just a thought.

I'd like to spend some time outdoors, being near the sea is always good (I know I won't have beach weather). I'm not opposed to renting a car. I would like to stay under 10 days including travel from the states. 8 days would be even better. I know this makes for a short trip & I'm okay with that.

**OR**

Or should I just fly to Bologna to see more of this area that I loved so much on my last visit? Easy to train around to several towns in the region. Cold, yes, but it would be cold at home anyway.

If weather is key, have a look south.
Napoli, Sicily, Crete, Malta, Malaga etc.

I see that I can fly nonstop to Lisbon & Seville from Paris so I think I will grab the sale fare while I can (ends tomorrow) and figure it out.

You can also easily fly to Pisa from Amsterdam, a compact university town with good train connections for day trips and marginally better weather than Bologna. All depends on how much more of the Emilia Romagna you want to see, and what actual days you be there -- meaning, various hings close in various places on the weekends or on Mondays or Thursdays.

Mmeperdu, Delta has cheap award flights from US to Europe at the moment. One way economy seats for 21,000 miles and biz class are 42,000. Travel is for late October through February. Lots of availability when I checked, even during the holidays.

There is also a $500 fare between JFK & Milan available on delta when purchased in pairs.

Thanks, limmy. Unfortunately not my program. I've been looking at AA award flights for next spring and I'm finding the taxes and fees are more than if I just buy a ticket on Norwegian. I have enough miles to go around the world so it makes more sense to buy the ticket to or from Europe and use the miles for the rest of the way around.
