Going with a small group of friends. Flying into either Marselles or Nice, renting car. Would like to make a base somewhere along the Riviera and do day trips. Places to stay? Can spend about $100 - 120 for double room with shower. All enjoy art and scenery. Need your recommendations! We'll have a week. Thanks so much in advance! <BR>

I recommend the Chagall museum in Nice. It's <BR>beautiful and very small (can be visited in under <BR>90 minutes). Cannes and Monte Carlo are gliltzy overpriced towns and a waste of time, IMHO. <BR>The most beautiful <BR>areas are behind the hills of famous towns such <BR>as St Tropez, Cannes and Nice. You can discover <BR>stunning towns and drives, and great food. Have <BR>a good trip. <BR> <BR> <BR>

There is a beautiful Relais and Chateau property called Hotel Les Roches at Le Levandou along the Mediterranean between Marseilles and St. Tropez. We stayed there three years ago, got a room at very low cost because it was the end of the season and they were closing the next week for the winter. We stayed one night, and drove into the perched town of Bormes les Mimosas which was awesome. October is a nice month for that part of the country. Enjoy the roundabouts. Remember to stay in the center going round and round until you know which of the exits you are taking . . . . . and if you find that thrilling in a right-lane drive country, try it next time in Ireland! Have a great trip. We also stayed at Roger Verge's Moulin des Mougins, northish of Nice, and we stayed at St. Paul de Vence, my husband's favorite place (so far) in the world. Again, have a great trip.
