Advice for Seville in September, especially for the Bienale de flamenco?

We will be in Seville from September 28 to October 4 this year, so we will be there for the flamenco festival. 2 couples in our sixties, staying in an apartment near the cathedral, on Calle Garcia de vinuesa. My husband and I have been to Seville briefly a few years ago and the other couple have never been to Spain, so they're expecting us to come up with ideas for things to do, where to eat etc. I'm not a great planner, usually play it by ear a lot, don't usually make a lot of reservations ahead. But I'm feeling pressure to have some sort of idea of a plan. Has anyone been to the flamenco festival before? Do we need to make bookings ahead of time, or are there free events we can find out about? I'm hoping Kimhe will offer suggestions on the best acts to see, as his advice has always been great in the past. Restaurant recommendations would also be appreciated.

We would also like to do a day trip or two. DH and I visited Cordoba, Granada and Malaga last year, so we would like to see someplace new. Would you suggest renting a car to go to Ronda or is it doable by bus? Any other suggestions welcome.
