Advance purchase on AVE train Madrid to Sevilla
We are planning on taking the high speed AVE train from Madrid to Sevilla when we arrive on June 24th. My daughter is studying in Sevilla right now and one of her advisors said we should just wait and purchase the tickets when we arrive, vs. in advance, to avoid issues if we have a problem with our flight or other logistics issues that might cause us to miss the train if we reserve in advance and are wrong on our timing. Is this good advice, as it seems from what I have read that you should reserve a spot on this train. Help!

It depends on how much it will bother you in case you DO miscalculate arrival time necessary to get over to the station/ suffer a flight delay, and need to re-buy tickets if you are unable to make your originally planned train. is it worth it?

The cheap 'Web' fare booked in advance at www.renfe.com costs 35 euros, the full-price 'on the day' fare 83 euros.
So there's a 50 euros saving if you pre-book, but to reduce the risk of wasting it (no refunds, no changes at this price) you'd have to allow a safety margin of a few hours.
How much is 50 euros worth to you?

good question, as that it was it usually gets down to. Your time versus money.
The advice is clear as to the reasoning, it's up to you whether you value it or not and how much you care about that savings. Don't be one of these people who buy the cheap nonrefundable tickets and then complain when they are late or you change your plans and want a refund anyway (seen that re French tickets on here more than once).

Unless you are a 60% discounted web fare I would not even consider it. And as mentioned.. give yourself several hours between when you think you will leave airport and departure time. There is a luggage place where you can leave your bags at atocha and go for a quick stroll to the thyssen, sit in their garden café, and /or see the museum if you have the time.
