We are touring exensively in Northern Greece...spending a day in Athens to see the Acropolis Museum. Are there any suggestions for easiest way to get a ticket? What time of day is best? Should we purchase admission in advance? Is the dining room of the Museum worth a visit?

Just buy your ticket when you get there. They can be bought online, but you are restricted to time slots then,

It is closed on Mondays. The best time to go can vary at different times of year, will you be staying the night before in Athens? If so I would recommend going soon after opening time (8am) as that is when most people will go up the Acropolis & then see the museum later, in the heat of the day, as it is well air conditioned. Other than that it is very difficult to say when it will be less busy. My second visit was at a usually quieter time but just happened to coincide with a couple of parties of Greek school children arriving!
There are 2 museum cafes, there's one that you can go to on the ground floor without entering the museum, but obviously the best one with the terrace & view is only accessible after entry. It's an excellent place for lunch, reasonable prices too. There is quite a bit of seating inside with aircon (& the museum shop), the terrace outside is large for just viewing or photographing the Acropolis, with seating in the centre under some shade. At times you have to wait for a table there. I have had a drink there each time I went, but only had lunch once, it was very tasty!
Don't miss the short film shown in different languages in the mini theatre.
Efcharisto and YIA Sou. I will take your advice, and do appreciate it! We are very excited about our visit to the Museum.
