Accomodation recommendation near Kinevara/Doolin?

We are traveling to Ireland Sept 25-Oct 1 and are looking for places to stay around the Kinevara/Doolin area for 2 nights Friday and Saturday. We are both in our 30's and would probably like to be near some nighttime activites. (Someplace where we can go and drink and not have to worry about driving back).

Does anyone have any suggestions on a nice place around there. Doesn't matter if its a hotel or B&B.

Thanks!

You will Catch the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking festival.. Now at 30 you might enjoy that type of thing but personally being an old fool and preferring to enjoy myself in good company rather than with a bunch of folk enjoying themselves at the expense of others (unfortunate minority but it happens) you won't find me anywhere in the Lisdoonvarna/Doolin area any weekend around that time.. Of course that might be why you are going, that's fine. The Meryman Hotel in Kinvara is a good spot. Fallons B&B is also ideally placed.

came across Matchmaking festival a few years ago by surprise on our way to Doolin. It was quite an experiece.....stayed for a few hours but wasnt our cup of tea. Lots of country western music when we were there.
I think Doolin is great for 2 nites. Can always count on music in the pubs and during the day there is trip to Aran Island or walk to Cliffs of Moher or visit Burren. We are going in Sept again and staying at Kates Place B & B....has wonderful reviews
have fun!!

Love the way Americans figure they invented Bluegrass rather than it being imported by the Irish settlers.. Most Ceili, Set Dance (barn dance!) music is referred to as "Country" music but is just a different branch of Irish Traditional music.

as a Canadian visiting Ireland I didnt realize the Irish 'country music' I experienced in Lisdoonvarna which included Willy Nelson songs was a branch of Irish Traditional music.

If you held a poll among Americans who have visited Ireland, you would probably get a big majority for Doolin. If you held a poll among Irish people, I suspect that you would get an even more decisive majority for Kinvara.

Make of that what you will.

The Merriman Hotel in Kinvara is quite nice, and not unduly expensive.

Tony2phones I think we would prefer to NOT be in the middle of all of the matchmaking festival madness (We are from New Orleans, LA so we get enough of that kind of thing!)
So staying in the Doolin area is out!

Do you think Kinvara will be far enough away? (Sorry spelled that wrong in the topic

Everything pretty much stays around Lisdoonvarna but Doolin gets the overspill. to be honest mid week it can be a bit of fun but weekends are OTT. Fanore on the coast is next north and Ballyvaughan. Kinvara is not a popular tourist destination mainly locals and a few overseas that want the castle banquet. There will be music at weekend and there is an active following for the KAM collective http://www.kinvaramusic.com/dir/ There's a choice of bars all within easy walking distance. Connollys and the Pier are our favoured but with 10 compared to Doolin's 4 a bit wider choice.

Sounds like Kinvara is the place! We're looking for something less tourist filled anyway! Booked the Merriman Hotel -- thanks so much for the suggestions everyone.

How about the Tipperary area? Not too far south -- maybe no further south than the actual town of Tipperary (not sure exactly if that how they are referred to?? maybe the Village?) and maybe no more west than Cashel.

Doesn't necessarily have to be in the middle of a town. Same thing a nice B&B or hotel doesn't really matter.

Should I start a new question for this?

Possibly a new question..I didn't know where Tipp came in.. Consider Killaloe/Ballina at the foot of Lough Derg http://www.discoverkillaloe.ie/ Whitethorn Lodge on the Ballina (Tipperary) side of the river http://www.whitethornlodge.ie/ or Lakeside Hotel http://www.lakesidehotel.ie/

There are options around Lough Derg which has the Northern bridge in Portumna and the Southern Bridge Killaloe, Mountshannon and Holy Island above Tuamgraney a number of walking trails, Nenagh on the east side Roscrea, handy, Cashel or Kilkenny about an hour.
