Accommodation near Rome

Please can anyone help with a B&B outside Rome with good access into Rome. We are driving a car but don't want to drive into Rome. Coming from Venice, staying 3 nights, 3 adults. Found one in a place called Prima Porta- the Saxa Rubra B&B- sounded really good but reports on Trip Advisor aren't so great. Has anyone stayed there?

Not a B&B, but the only place I can recommend on the outskirts of Rome is the Holiday Inn Rome-Eur Parco dei Medici. They had a pool and great buffet breakfast, reasonable price, parking for the car, and shuttle transportation to/from Rome and the airport.

This one is near Lake Bracciano which makes a pleasant change from Rome if you need one. There's an easy train connection to central Rome: http://www.mazzano.com/accommodation.htm

Thanks for the replies. To Budman I have checked out the Holiday Inn and it sounds pretty good. Do you have any more info on the shuttle transportation into the city. Is it free and how long does it take? Also is it available getting back out to the hotel. If not do you know anything about the trains in and out from there. Would appreciate your reply. I do wonder what most people do when they are driving as I am sure many do and don't want to drive into the city. Thanks

They have a bus that runs to the airport and into Rome. It's free. If you e-mail them, they will give you the schedule.

It's been a couple of years, but I did look at the hotel's location in comparison to the train, and it seemed like it was a couple of blocks away. I would e-mail them and ask them about the schedule also.

Would you consider staying in Frascati, which is 21 km from Rome and linked by bus and train?

Thanks Budman I will email them and get some info. It seems like a fairly easy place to get to from the ring road. Thanks also to Ekscrunchy. Havent' heard of Frascati but will look into it. Have never been to the south of Italy before. Only skimmed across the top 28 years ago. The whole aspect of driving in Italy is pretty scary. Opposite side of the road for us but will have been driving for 5 weeks by then so hopefully ok
