Accommodation in Alicante Spain for week in October

My friend and I are thinking of a week long break, flying in to Alicante.Spain Can anyone recommend a budget hotel./apartment near the centre and yet within walking distance of the beach. Is the weather hot enough for the beach the beginning of October ? Our age group is 50/60....We want somewhere safe and not too noisy as we are two women travelling together minus our Husbands !
